Apparently, Bill’s deal to take over from Wyc Grousbeck runs afoul of the NBA’s private equity rules. Just like a technical foul on a fast break, Bill might have to reassess his game plan. To make the deal happen, Bill needs to either find new investors to outbalance Sixth Street Partners or call upon the NBA’s genie for a special waiver. No pressure, Bill!
Should the deal crash faster than a broken three-pointer, Wyc and family may swipe left and check out other wannabe owners like Phillies’ Stan Middleman or Celtics’ fan-favorite, Steve Pagliuca.
