Summer League Shenanigans!…
LAS VEGAS – Picture this: Celtics rookie Hugo Gonzalez in a bumpy game, stares of disbelief as his free throws flew like UFOs. But fear not, for Matt “Mad-Cap” Reynolds, Celtics Summer League’s head mastermind, swoops in with a zinger! He dives into his playbook of fun with a spike of hilarity, screaming, “Are you having fun yet?” For Gonzalez, it was like being hit by a confetti cannon of joy! “Man, the hoops never felt so hilariously different,” says Gonzalez, still adjusting from his usual stern, samba-less days at Real Madrid.
But this contagious joy wasn’t just for Gonzalez. The whole gang, from even the unlikeliest benchwarmers to top performers, is moonwalking to Reynolds’ chuckle beat. “He’s the maestro of the mirthful,” admits Baylor Scheierman, dizzy from the whirlwind of fun. With a grinning record of 3-1 in July, the Celtics are dancing on cloud nine, grooving under Reynolds’ whimsical wizardry.
Reynolds, meanwhile, relishes this trippy ride in his Celtics dream convertible. As an assistant coach, this superfan of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett turned from festival of failures into a carnival kingpin. The man with the memory of an elephant and the spirit of a cheerleader, Reynolds is all about “team spirit”, sprinkling happiness like glitter with his photographic recall of basketball stats and sci-fi movie quotes. “I just love being the Celtic ringmaster,” he chortles. So here’s to Mad-Cap Reynolds — making sure every player spins, twirls, and laugh-until-it-hurts their path to victory!
