A Comedic Journey of Dedication and Accolades…
For 45 years, Jeff Twiss has been as reliable at Celtics games as a hot dog vendor during halftime. Starting with an internship where he played chauffeur to coach Red Auerbach—who drove like he was late for a NASCAR race—Twiss climbed the ranks to become Celtics’ PR chief. Remarkably, he only missed 11 games in four-and-a-half decades! On September 5th, Twiss will get the John W. Bunn Lifetime Achievement Award from the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. When Twiss got the call from Hall of Fame President John Doleva, he thought he’d been recruited for an Olympic trophy stack-stealing mission!
In his early days, Twiss planned to teach gym class, but the Celtics’ magic pulled him in. From driving Auerbach like a getaway driver to being part of four championship teams, Twiss experienced it all. He’s helped maintain that iconic Garden atmosphere and even escorted legends like Bob Cousy onto the parquet floor. “I’d have paid for the honor,” Twiss said, as Cousy mystically whispered, ‘Don’t mess this up,’ like he was revealing the secret formula for lasting geniuses. Now, Twiss is working on a book that’ll probably require a Nobel Prize just for the footnotes!
