Analogies and the Elusive Gap Year Mystery…
Have you ever experienced that annoying moment when something seems just out of reach, like trying to remember the name of a song or where you hid your car keys during a sleepwalking episode? That’s my current predicament with describing a “gap year” using an analogy. Analogies are usually my superpower, like being able to juggle flaming torches while riding a unicycle. However, this gap year problem is throwing me off. The Celtics won a championship 14 months ago, but with Jayson Tatum’s injury, the team now faces a challenging year without him. It’s like an attempt to play basketball without the ball being inflated.
I tried several analogies, from awkwardly transitioning swim kids to a high school senior coasting through the year, but nothing fits. I even tried comparing it to a new job, but then I felt like I had been promoted to Circus Ringmaster trying to tame lions with spaghetti noodles. Tatum’s rehab journey even crossed my mind, but that analogy felt a bit too spot-on. In the end, we’re just going to experience a year full of ups, downs, and wild rides as the Celtics take a temporary detour. It’s a year to buckle up and savor this unpredictable journey—kind of like hopping on a roller coaster with blindfolds on and hoping for the best!
